Coating Thickness Gauges

coating-thickness1

Coatings are materials that are applied to a surface to improve its appearance, performance or durability. Coatings can be applied to a variety of materials, including metal, wood, plastic, and concrete etc.

There are many different types of coatings, most common types include Polyurethane coatings, Epoxy coatings, Alkyd coatings, Zinc coatings, Acrylic coatings etc.

Gauss Meter

Carl Friederich Gauss invented first measuring devices namely the magnetometer or Gauss meter in 1833 that is capable of measuring the direction & strength of a magnetic field. He also invented a system of units to determine magnetism.

So, the current unit of magnetic induction or magnetic flux density in the CGS system is called the gauss whereas, in the SI measurement system, the magnetic flux basic unit is the tesla (1 tesla = 10,000 Gauss).

Gloss Meter

gloss-meter

Glossmeter is an instrument which is used to measure the specular reflection (gloss) of a surface. Gloss is determined by projecting a beam of light at a fixed intensity and angle onto a surface and measuring the amount of reflected light at an equal but opposite angle.

Holiday Detector

The term "Holiday" dates back to the days of the great wooden sailing ships. During the long slow voyages, ship maintenance was a must. One of the most important duties was that of the mast sealer. A sailor would seal the mast of the ship with tar to prevent the wood from rotting. If the sailor missed coating an area of the mast the wood would rot.

It was said, the sailor must have taken a Holiday at that point thus not achieving a good coat of tar on the mast. Later as steel replaced wood, paint replaced tar. However, holidays live on. Holidays also known as pinholes void discontinuities.

Pull Off Adhesion Tester

PUII-OFF ADHESION TESTER is used to measure adhesion strength of coating adhere to the substrate.

A dolly of fixed diameter is attached using glue to substrate surface whose coating adhesion is to be measured, it is then pulled perpendicular by using a hydraulic actuator and pressure pump assembly. When dolly gets pulled and separated from Substrate, the pressure is measured which defines quality of coating adhesion.

Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge

Sound is a mechanical wave which travels with specific velocities depending on the medium of propagation, which may be Solid, Liquid or Gases. Sound waves having very high frequencies reflect from boundaries of materials and produce distinct echo patterns.

For transmitting sound waves and receiving echoes, ultrasonic sensors normally called as transceivers or transducers are used. The commonly used transducers are Contact, Angle beam, Delay line, Immersion and Dual element transducers. Propagation of sound waves through solid material are determined by Ultrasonic Transducers.

Moisture Meter

Moisture meters are highly advanced devices, offer precision measurement using electrical resistance technique in detecting and accurately measuring moisture levels within the measuring samples.

Wood Moisture Equivalent (WME) is a scale of measuring moisture content in material comparing it with wood. The natural characteristics of wood and parameters like consistent Electrical conductivity, Hygroscopic nature Indicator of Microbial Growth Risk and its interaction with moisture act as a universal “barometer,”
